Jillian Taylor

"Conservation starts with the details: it is hard to protect a species unless you know the name of it."

Biography

Jillian Taylor is a 25-year-old wildlife scientist and ocean enthusiast who grew up next to the ocean and spends her weekends snorkeling, scuba diving or surfing in the frigid waters of Canada, Newfoundland. She is completing her Master of Science on the Atlantic puffin, an iconic seabird who also appreciates the ocean. She says, “Most people think the North Atlantic Ocean is a dark, empty, and cold place, and while the latter is true, some of my favourite moments in life have been dispelling this misconception. For work and in my spare time I enjoy showcasing the rich biodiversity of the colder parts of our oceans. Some of my favourite childhood memories are building sandcastles for hermit crabs at low tide.”
