The marine life in South Ari Atoll is truly remarkable, making it one of the top diving and snorkelling destinations in the Maldives. Here are some key highlights of the diverse marine ecosystem you can expect to encounter.

South Ari Atoll is famous for its whale shark sightings. These gentle giants are possible to be spotted in the area all year around, providing an unforgettable experience for divers and snorkelers. Manta rays are commonly seen in the atoll. Their graceful movements make them a favourite among underwater enthusiasts. Species of turtles, like the green and hawksbill turtles, can be found in the waters around South Ari Atoll, often seen gliding gracefully through the coral reefs or coming up to the surface to take a breath. 

Dive sites like Kuda Rah Thila, Lux Beyru, Broken Rock, Five Rocks and Maamigili Beyru offer excellent opportunities to see these marine species up close and are only a few to be named. Furthermore, we have the possibility to explore a sunken ship, Kudhimaa Wreck, while enjoying the vibrant marine life that has made it their home.

When to dive South Ari Atoll

Sightings of Manta rays and whale sharks are all year around, which means there is no particular season for them.  January to March are usually the peak months for weather and marine life sightings during these months the ocean is typically calmer, and underwater visibility is at its best, often exceeding 20 meters (65 feet).
