There are over 20 noteworthy dive spots along the seven miles of Negril’s coastline with varying degrees of difficulty that give every diver a wide range of options. Dive spots generally range from 30 to 90 feet (9-27 meters) and Negril generally experiences calm waters due to being on the west coast of the island. The reef structures are intricate and vast creating a wide variety of unique and scenic underwater landscapes including caverns, caves, ledges, walls and arches. These structures, in turn, provide great habitat for marine life to thrive. Some of the best dive spots to view these unique structures include The Throne Room, Arches, Kings Fish Point, Long Wall, Sharks Reef, Fantasy Reef, Golden Gate and Treasure Reef. Wreck diving is also an option including Deep Plane, Shallow Plane, and Tug boat/Pete. Whatever dives you choose to enjoy, you can count on excellent visibility, warm Caribbean waters and abounding marine life.
Visitors can travel to Negril year-round considering water temperatures range from 80F/26C to 86F/30C and air temperatures range from 75F/23C to 88F/31C throughout the year. Negril experiences the rainy season from July to October concurrent with hurricane season in the summer. Rain showers are often short-lived due to the proximity to the coastline but can offer a cool down during the hotter months of the year. Despite the rainy season, there are still plenty of warm sunny days in the summer, but rainy weather can negatively impact visibility. The dry season ranges from December to April which are also peak season for Jamaica.
