Montego Bay Marine Park is Jamaica's first declared Marine Protected Area. This protection has allowed the environment to thrive by reducing impacts caused by human activity. Scuba diving Montego Bay offers an incredible experience with plenty of underwater exploration for beginners and seasoned divers alike with over 15 dive spots to choose from. Most dive sites are close to shore and only require a 10 minute boat ride making for an easy commute. The clear waters provide great visibility, revealing beautiful coral reefs, arches and caverns. Stingray City is a popular site where divers can experience the thrill of swimming peacefully alongside rays. A more advanced location like Widowmaker’s Cave (named after a James Bond novel) offers divers the challenge of exploring deep caverns covered in black and soft corals frequented by parrot fish and barracudas.
Visitors can travel to Montego Bay year-round considering water temperatures range from 80F/26C to 86F/30C and air temperatures range from 75F/23C to 88F/31C throughout the year. Montego Bay experiences the rainy season from July to October concurrent with hurricane season in the summer. Rain showers are often short-lived due to the proximity to the coastline, but can offer a cool down during the hotter months of the year. Despite the rainy season, there are still plenty of warm sunny days in the summer, but rainy weather can negatively impact visibility. The dry season ranges from December to April which are also peak season for Jamaica.
