Diving in Austria offers a unique experience characterized by breathtaking alpine landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, and well-preserved underwater environments.
The Salzkammergut region of Austria has almost 170 lakes. A favorite is lake Attersee, where there are dive sites galore to check out, in this, the largest of the area’s lakes. Nazi treasures were once held in Wolfgangsee, and though you can’t take them with you, you can still see them on a dive.
The region of Kärnten boasts a huge amount of lakes with Wörthersee, Millstätter See, Ossiacher See and Weissensee being the biggest offering popular dive sites.
Austria is also famous for ice diving in winter which is definitely not for the faint-hearted but a once in a lifetime experience. Dive into Lake Weissensee underneath a 40cm think surface of ice and experience a completely different world.
