The Northern end of Canyon Ferry Lake offers diverse fresh water diving options. As with all Montana dives Altitude must be taken into account for dive activities, colder months require drysuit use, and the few fleeting summer months may be warm enough for a thick wetsuit 5mm+ depending on your heat tolerance. Dependent on water conditions divers may be met with cool, clear, water offering 25ft+ visibility or warmer waters with degraded viz due to algae and particulate. With a mostly silty bottom composition, it is suggested to stay a few feet off the lakebed and mind their finwash to avoid disturbing the sediment which will linger suspended for quite a while. Areas may be shallow and gentle sloping from shore and abruptly drop off, so buoyancy awareness is important.
Carp are most often seen while other fish species may be observed, but often swim away. Night dives offer the chance to see different game fish dependent on location.
Recommend a few dives to orient yourself.
