Certification Level: Novice Overview: This is an easy and interesting shore dive ideal for novice divers but one that should also appeal to experienced divers. The site is located in a small inlet and therefore is very sheltered from wind and waves. Ti contains large kelp formations, large rock ledges, schools of fish during the summer and fall as well as various debris - gloves, bottles etc. discarded by the fishermen that use the wharf as their base of operations. The site is easy to navigate and all of the points of interest could be visited on a single dive. Parking: Parking is somewhat problematic at this site because vehicles cannot be left unattended on the Government Wharf. There is a wide shoulder area on the right of the West Dover Road at the top of the hill leading to the wharf where a few vehicles could be parked. Obviously, it is recommended that you drive to the wharf, drop your buddy and both sets of gear off at the site and then park your vehicle. Facilities: There are no rest room facilities at the site. There are restaurants and a convenience store close to this site. ​ ​ Site Entry/Exit ​ The preferred entry /exit point is the short but steep rock bank on the right side of the wharf (see pictures). A giast stride entry from the wharf is not recommended because the area is quite shallow during low tide. ​ ​ Points of interest/natural navigation aids: The points of interest at this site include the wharf pilings, a mooring buoy located 150 feet/45.7m from the entry/exit point, a rock wall that begins at the mooring buoy and runs roughly parallel to the shoreline to the right of the sire (the continuation of the sloping shoreline), a marker buoy located 240feet/73m from the entry / exit point (ie 80ft/24m before the mooring buoy) and a large / lengthy rock wall extending along the outer width of the site. Bottom Composition & Depth: From the entry point to the mooring buoy/rock wall to the right of the site the bottom consists of a slope composed of silt with large kelp formation. The mooring buoy is anchored at a depth of 30ft/9m. Beyond the mooring buoy to the large rock wall extending along the outer width of the site the bottom is composed of sand and small rocks. The maximum depth ranges from 30ft to 35ft/9m to 9.5m Visibility: Visibility varies based on many influences including the weather - rain runoff, wind and waves - the tides and the time of the day.
