Tommy L. (Advanced Diver) Recommends Magic Point

Magic Point is one of my favourite dive sites in Sydney. Every time I've been I've seen the resident grey nurse sharks and lots of port jackson and wobbegongs. There are always plenty of shoals of fish and if you're lucky you'll see some weedy sea dragons as well. This site never disappoints.

Diving Magic Point is such an amazing experience. Abundant marine life awaits you, from the huge schools of fish to the rays to the graceful grey nurse sharks, it feels like you are diving in the most stunning aquarium. If you speak to any Sydney diver for recommendations on where to dive, Magic Point will always be at the top of their list.

Magic Point is a dive site that is worth visiting multiple times. I've dived here a number of times, and always come away with some great experiences. Grey Nurse Sharks are just such beautiful animals, and we are blessed to be able to experience them in their habitat. But there is a lot more to the dive site.... huge schools of fish, Wobbies, a massive bull ray, fiddler rays, Eastern Blue Devil fish is a regular visitor and Giant Cuttlefish. The Abyss boat is super spacious and comfortable. Skipper Marty tops off the best day! Highly recommend!

Magic Point What’s the “Magic” in Magic Point? Well for me and many other divers it’s the resident grey nurse sharks. It’s probably the best spot to see them in Sydney’s south. And so much easier by boat. The site itself is similar in topography to many of the shore dives with the added attraction of a couple of caves where you will normally find the sharks cruising around. On either side you will often find giant cuttlefish, and a huge smooth stingray regularly patrolling the area. At certain times of the year there are also Eastern blue devil fish showing off their amazing and vivid colours. There are also lots of Wobbegongs all around the site. And of course, no Sydney dive site would be complete without a blue groper to accompany you on the dive. If the sharks are just too shy when you get there you can swim away from the caves and out into slightly deeper water, keep an eye on your deco, and there is a really varied site. Lots of kelp and sponges hiding all sorts of cool stuff. Here you will often find more giant cuttlefish. Octopus and weedy sea dragons. And many shoals of schooling fish swimming over and around you. It’s generally a very sheltered site so the boat can tuck in and make entry and exit safe and easy, even when other nearby sites are too rough. And the skipper always drops you in the perfect spot for minimum swimming and maximum viewing. The site is suitable for all levels of divers.
