Because there was a shortage of iron the undamaged bow and stern section were cut off, welded together and the vessel was transported to the USA, leaving the damaged midsection in Aruba. The vessel was rebuild and sailed again under the name “Esso Pedernalis” The midsection was later used as a target for firing practice for the Dutch navy until it was decided to sink the remains to create a dive spot.
