Biography
Zahamin “Baki” Zainal has been an avid traveler since he was a teenager, and so it was fated that his debut television show was to host the Malaysian travel and adventure program, “Step Forward” (横行8道), which he did for 11 seasons.
During his travels, Baki realized the importance of spreading the word on environmental issues, especially in his home country of Malaysia. So Baki started a movement, “Malaysian Celebrities Go Green,” and has gathered like-minded personalities and celebrities to help him out reach and spread the importance of environmental protection to schools, universities and the Malaysian public.
With his love to the ocean and diving, Baki accepted the position of Reefcheck Malaysia ambassador, and with the backing of major brands such as Rip Curl and GoPro he has managed to pull together conservation programs and activities in his home country to educate school children, divers and the public on the importance of keeping our ocean clean.
“In order to conserve the environment, people should first be able to see and understand the beautiful ocean life within,” he says. “You won’t learn to love something if you don’t understand it.”
